FACTORS THAT AFFECT MENTAL HEALTH

Factors that affect Mental Health

Several instances that affect mental of a person in a given situation.

Hereditary factor

Several evidences have been gathered by researches to support the theory that in some degree , mental disorders can be inherited through the genes of one or both parents who have history of mental illness.

Environmental factor

The cause of some mental disorders may be the environment. The family is the most influential factor in mental disorder. An individual who comes form a conservative family tends to develop a type of mental disorder. His or her social life and emotions are suppressed. On the other hand, an individual comes from a family with open communications lines is more likely to have a sound mental health.

Pollution, weather, and inadequate sleep and rest are the other factors in the environment that affect mental health. These factors may affect the individual's performance in school or in his or her work.

Brain factor

The brain works as the body's computer that controls an individual's physical and mental functions. A person's mental health status is influenced by anything that affects the brain. Mental disorders result when one's mental health is destroyed.



HOW TO MAINTAIN A MENTALLY HEALTHY PERSONALITY

The steps to be mentally healthy person

1. Establish some contact with nature
2. Never give up when failures occur
3. Eliminate negative thoughts
4. Develop a sense of humor
5. Be physically active
6. Learn to relax
7. Be yourself
8. Be flexible
9. Be positive



Learning to be happy is the most preventive measure for emotional problems. It is not only for fostering mental health but also conducive to a state of sound physical health. Medical experts stressed that laughter is good because it improves blood circulation, strengthens abdominal muscles, and exercise the heart. If one is happy and contented, his or her blood pressure is lowered. Stomachaches, headaches, ulcers, colitis, and other psychosomatic disorders can be prevented.

Negative thoughts and feelings are eliminated by having positive behavior. These are poisonous to wellness. Attitudes and feelings can consciously can cause behavioral changes. A person's mental health is harmed by resentments, hostilities and revengeful attitude.

Learning to relax contributes much to a state of happiness and well-being. One's decision and anxieties  are released by engaging to physical exercise. Relaxation occurs when we establish contact with nature. Once this is done, a  human being's genetic structures and nervous system are turned into a natural environment once he or she establishes contact with nature.

Once a person has positive mental health, it does not spare him or her from having problems. Problems are parts of life. How he or she copes and solves his or her problem in a positive way is the key to positive mental health.
